Catfish Curry Version 1

Many of my friends used to tell me that catfish curry is so tasty and I never tried making them at home as my hubby is kinda of fuss in buying live catfish from the Asian Markets. He always likes to get the frozen fish from Walmart but I like to have fish with their bones and skin.Recently he had catfish fried and he got to like those fish.I happened to get some fresh catfish fillets in Costco and this my version of making this aromatic curry. It will taste even better if prepare one day before or in mud pot- those kind of village style cooking.Anyway I couldn't get my hands on mud pot here so....just prepare the curry using what's at home..


Catfish Curry Version 1

Ingredients
Serving Size:4

To be roasted and grind Paste:
1 cup chopped shallots
1 cup chopped tomatoes
3 garlic cloves minced
1tbsp fenugreek
3 dried chillies
1tbsp fish curry powder
1/2 cup tamarind pulp juice
1tsp chillie powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
few curry leaves
salt to taste
a pinch hing powder

Add 1tbsp oil and roast all the ingredients mentioned above really well-once cooled grind them into a super fine paste and keep aside.

Marinate For Fish:
1lb catfish cubed
1tsp chillie powder
1/4tsp turmeric powder
1tsp fish curry powder
1tsp coriander powder
salt to taste

In a large bowl add all ingredients and leave aside for 4 hours or for better taste leave it fridge overnight.

1 large onion sliced thinly
few curry leaves
2 dried chilies broken
1/2tsp mustard seeds
1/4tsp fenugreek
chopped coriander leaves
a pinch of hing
salt to taste

Preparation Methods:
Coat a wok with 2tbsp oil and splutter frengeek seeds ,dried chillies and mustard seeds.Add curry leaves and chopped onions -saute till translucent. Next add the grind paste with salt and saute. Keep the pan covered and cook on low flame for around 8-10 minutes till it starts to boil-finally add the marinated fish cubes stirring occasionally, until the gravy thickens. Adjust the level of salt and add the chopped coriander leaves and sprinkle some hing powder-remove from flame and serve with steamed white rice.

yummy fish curry...u mentioned fish curry powder...is that u bought from indian store?
The fish curry powder is brought from the Indian store and it will give the curry the taste too...thanks for all the comments LOL :)
